The journey from graduate to director
Progressing her career from a graduate employee to Programme Director, Nicole Romeo talks about how Skills Alliance Enterprise gave her the opportunity to expand her skill set alongside a growing company.
What is your current role at Skills Alliance?
I am the Programme Director working remotely in the New York City metropolitan area and I partner with various clients within the life sciences and biotech industries. I work closely with key stakeholders such as HR, TA and Procurement to curate personalised MSP and/or RPO programmes based on the client’s needs and wants to streamline current processes or build a successful programme from the ground up.
What initially attracted you to Skills Alliance, and what was the deciding factor in your decision to join?
Like many recent graduates, I was uncertain about my career path after college. When Skills Alliance reached out to me for an interview for an Internal Recruiter role, I saw it as an exciting opportunity. I was drawn to the company’s agile team and the potential for growth within the organisation. Seven years later, I’m still here, and it’s been a rewarding journey.
What aspects of your role do you find most rewarding, and how do they align with your personal or professional goals?
Several aspects of my role stand out as particularly rewarding:
- Problem-solving: Our clients reach out to us to help them solve their talent acquisition challenges. And as each program presents unique challenges, finding effective bespoke solutions is a critical part of my job.
- Direct communication with client stakeholders: I enjoy collaborating and building relationships with key client stakeholders to fully understand their needs. Ultimately these transparent partnerships help create the successful RPO and MSP programs that we deliver.
- Continuous learning and adaptation: Every day brings new learning opportunities, whether it’s about system functionalities, compliance processes, or even a stakeholder’s personal interests. This adaptability helps us tailor our programs to better meet client needs and ensure successful partnerships.
What keeps you motivated and engaged at work, and what role does the Skills Alliance culture play in that?
The variety in my day-to-day work keeps me extremely motivated. Each program we support has unique requirements, which means no two days are the same.
- I work with an amazing team that helps navigate the uncertainties we face.
- The company culture plays a huge role in my engagement. We’re encouraged to voice our opinions, have open discussions with managers, ask for support when needed, and strive for continuous improvement. This open and supportive environment fosters a sense of belonging and motivation.
How has Skills Alliance supported your professional development, and what future opportunities are you excited about?
My journey with Skills Alliance began as an Internal Recruiter, and I’ve had the chance to wear many different hats along the way. This diverse experience has helped me learn about the entire recruitment lifecycle, compliance essentials, and how to establish and manage MSP and RPO programs from scratch.
I’m excited to see how Skills Alliance Enterprise continues to grow, and I’m eager to contribute to that growth and be a part of the company’s evolving journey.
